While I was away on a business trip, my mother-in-law Janet let her friend Sheryl raid my walk-in closet and use my makeup without asking. I found out when my neighbor sent me a video of Sheryl wearing my clothes and applying my Chanel lipstick right in my living room! I was furious.

When I returned, my closet was a mess, my wedding dress stained with red wine, and Janet acted like it was all “harmless fun.” I couldn’t believe she let a stranger use my things. But karma had other plans: Sheryl developed a nasty allergic reaction from my makeup and ended up in the hospital, embarrassed and humiliated.

Janet called me, apologizing profusely and promising to make things right. She replaced the used makeup, paid to clean my dress, and respected the boundaries Dave and I set. Dave confronted Janet, making it clear that her actions were unacceptable.

In the end, I chose to take the high road and let karma do its work. It was the best kind of revenge quiet, powerful, and totally deserved. This whole ordeal actually brought Dave and me closer, and Janet finally learned to respect our space. Moral of the story: Don’t mess with someone’s stuff karma will handle it, often better than you ever could.
