Indian authorities have confirmed that at least 36 people died after a devastating explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Telangana. The blast erupted in the spray dryer unit of Sigachi Industries on June 30, where 108 employees were present. Dozens more were injured, and DNA testing is underway to identify severely burned victims.
Rescue crews are still removing debris from the site, located about 50 kilometers from Hyderabad. Two workers succumbed to injuries in the hospital, while teams continue searching for any who may be trapped. The state has launched an official inquiry and suspended factory operations for 90 days pending investigation.
Tragedy also struck earlier this month when an Air India flight to London crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing at least 290 people. The Boeing 787-8 went down in a crowded area, striking a medical college hostel. Only one passenger survived, and rescue operations continue amid widespread mourning.
The crash has intensified scrutiny on Boeing’s safety protocols and exposed vulnerabilities in India’s aviation oversight. Ahmedabad’s airport has been shut down, and authorities are calling for blood donations to aid victims. Investigations into both disasters are ongoing, with officials pledging accountability and reforms to prevent future tragedies.
